“God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31)
We believe that God made all things: heaven, earth, stars, planets, galaxies, tiny life forms, atoms, animals, plants, and humans. And all things were created good. God didn’t just make them to be the backdrop to human history – we humans are part of this wide tapestry of creation.
Thus, we should take good care of the rest of creation. The environment isn’t here for us to spoil, misuse, and discard. We want to be wise stewards that all may flourish.
Prayer for stewardship of creation
O merciful Creator, your hand is open wide to satisfy the needs of every living creature: Make us always thankful for your loving providence; and grant that we, remembering the account that we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of your good gifts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, pg 259)
