August 17, 2023 Snapshot

Ladies Who Lunch:  Third Thursday is today and you’ll find the ladies at Smoky Mountain Pizza, 415 E Parkcenter Blvd.  Join them for some great food and fun conversation!

Hawai’i Fires:  High winds from Hurricane Dora and drought conditions combined to accelerate the growth of brush fires that devastated the Lahaina community in Hawai’i. Episcopal Relief & Development is in contact with the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai’i in the wake of wildfires that have killed many people and displaced hundreds of families on Maui. They are calling on churches to help support the response. Please consider visiting episcopalrelief.org to make a donation today.

ASE Walkers:  More time changes!  Our Friday walking group at Kathryn Albertsons Park is meeting at 8:30 A.M.  The Tuesday evening group who gathers at River Quarry Apartments and walks on the greenbelt, will now convene at 7:30 P.M.

EFM Classes:  The program is designed to assist you in your personal theology. (EFM is does not prepare you to become an ordained Deacon or Priest). We meet once a week for 2.5 hours for 36 weeks. This year we hope to have two groups, one meeting at Holy Nativity and the other at All Saints. There is reading involved and sharing about the reading every week. There is a cost involved, but scholarships may be available, and depending on the number of people signed up, there are tuition discounts available.

Contact Anita Wallinger for more information, 208-866-5812.

CPR Class:  Compassionate Care will be offering a CPR/AED training class on September 13th from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.  There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex and the parish hall.

Idaho Episcopal Foundation Grants:  Cycle deadline is September 1.  Each year the Idaho Episcopal Foundation funds grants across the Diocese to promote mission, develop new projects and encourage ministry.  Who is eligible to apply?  Parishes, missions and non-profit agencies in Idaho with 501(c)3 status may apply if sponsored by a parish for the Diocese.  More details about past grant awards and to access the grant application, please use this link, or email Janet Hasson, [email protected]

Boise PrideFest 2023:  September 9 & 10 – During PrideFest, the Episcopal Church has a booth offering free nail-painting in rainbow colors for festival go-ers and sharing information on LGBTQ+ inclusion in community and liturgy in the Episcopal Church. We also march in the parade through downtown Boise.

Here’s how you can be involved:

CWI Food Pantry Drive:  Howdy everyone, Michael Englesby here. As you may well know, I am a student at one of the local community colleges, the College of Western Idaho. CWI offers students such as myself a way to attain the education we need in an affordable manner. They offer everything from nursing degrees and certifications to business and mechatronics. Students who are not as fortunate as myself rely on the public food pantries that the college operates to sustain themselves during their studies, and in the past have had difficulty finding sponsors to help keep them stocked. If indeed you are able to assist, they are looking for single sized servings of microwavable foods and pop-top cans of tuna and the like, as well as, hygiene products for men and women. Keep an eye out for boxes labeled “CWI” in the narthex; you will also find sheets with particular items on them. The college has also requested that we avoid donations of canned veggies, pastas, sauces and rice as they tend to sit for months in their pantries. God bless and thank you all.

Food Pantry:  St. Vincent’s is needing shelf-stable items such as canned and bottled foods, rice, pasta, flour, sugar, & water.  They are also in financial need to help pay their utilities and for fuel to pick up the food that they provide.

Fr. Joseph’s Emergency Message Phone:  If you are in need of pastoral care, please leave a message on Fr. Joseph’s emergency message phone at 208-917-2270.  Include your name, a call-back number, and a detailed message and he will get to you as soon as he can.  You may also text a message to this phone!
