MINISTRY MEMOS:
Help Fr. Joseph on his sabbatical: It’s here – from August 9 to October 31! For these twelve weeks, Fr. Joseph will be in and out of town as he takes time for rest and renewal. One way to help him enter into this time of renewal is to pretend he’s invisible if you happen to see him (which you probably will, because the rectory’s right there and Boise’s not that big). He’ll be very tempted to check in on how you’re doing if you talk to him – so a little wave or a head nod will suffice to say hello and also keep him focused on being on sabbatical. If there’s any pastoral or other concerns during this time, please call or text Mother Christina 208-917-2367, call Father Wettstein at 208-571-6025, or email our Senior Warden, Al Borg-Borm. Please also pray for Fr. Joseph that the Holy Spirit will help him rest and renew, so he can be refreshed when he returns on All Saints Day, November 1!
Youth Group: All 12 to 18 year olds are welcome to join our Youth Group! We’ll be meeting on August 16th at noon for an afternoon of fellowship, food, and fun! Bring your friends and neighbors along and be sure to share the info.
COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS:
Free Community Meal: Friday, August 7th, is our next meal. Stay and eat with us or take your meal to-go! Share this notification – the more, the merrier!
BOISE BENCH & BEYOND:
Gray Area Thinking: Ellie Krug will be speaking at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 3430 N. Maple Grove Road, August 13th from 6:30-8:30. This workshop will provide a toolset on how to be more welcoming of anyone who is “Other” in our society, is free, and open to everyone!
Boise Pride: Come to Sage brush Collaborative, 1609 13th Street, August 9th, from 11-1:30 for a Pride Bake Sale Fundraiser! Help raise money for signs & flags.
ALSO, we need volunteers from our parish to join our fellow Episcopalians at any of the following, including set-up beforehand. Ask our own MaryEllen if you have any questions!
FALL FAITH FORMATION:
Christian Formation for Adults (Sunday mornings at 9:00 am, Sept 13 – Oct 21 in the parish hall): Multiple opportunities! Come to one, come to all! Hazardous Saints: A video series about different saints to learn about their courage and what their witness means for us today!
Baptizing America (Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm, Sept 22 – Oct 20 at Southminster Presbyterian Church 6500 W Overland): A book series with our friends from other Boise Bench churches to learn and discuss what “Christian Nationalism” means and its history in the United States. The book is “Baptizing America: How Mainline Protestants Helped Build Christian Nationalism” by Beau T Underwood and Brian Kaylor.
Gifts of God for the People of God (Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm, parish hall from Sept 9 – Oct 7): A book series to learn more about the Eucharist, our regular Sunday morning worship service! This is a great opportunity for people new-ish to the Episcopal Church to learn more about our worship. The book is “The Gifts of God for the People of God: Exploring Worship in the Episcopal Church” by Furman Buchanan.
Signs and Grace (Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm, parish hall, from Oct 14 – Oct 28): This three part video series from Forward Movement explores what sacraments are, from Baptism and Eucharist to the sacramental rides of Confession (Reconciliation), Confirmation, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick, and Ordination. Also a great opportunity for new-ish folks to learn about the sacraments, and for people wanting to explore confirmation or baptism!
